Devastation Evoker Rotation in EssenceEssence Burst

Build and Spend: Disintegrate and Pyre spend Essence, primary resource for Evokers. Living Flame and Azure Strike are the filler spells that generate Essence Burst, a proc that allows you to use these abilities without spending Essence. Spend Essence and Essence Burst, then use filler spells while waiting.

Use cooldowns frequently: Dragonrage and Deep Breath (Scalecommander) are Devastation's main cooldown. Essence Burst is guaranteed from filler spells during this buff. Its duration can be extended by both Eternity Surge and Fire Breath with Animosity. Given that both spells also come with their own short cooldowns, consider what is available when entering Dragonrage and to press them on cooldown during it.

Always be casting: Try to maintain high uptime on targets. Constant use of damaging spells is the key to high damage in Raid and Mythic+. Use Hover effectively to cast spells on the move. Try to fill "downtime" in your rotation with spells, even if its not completely optimal (Azure Strike for instance). Using something is almost always better than being idle. Try to use cooldowns and Empowered spells early and often.

Fire Breath and Eternity Surge extend the buff with Animosity.

Dragonrage can be held for AoE, but it is a fairly long buff. The average duration should be around 32 seconds with proper play.

Apex talents (Rising Fury) buff your damage during and after this buff.
After the buff expires, it turns into Unbound Flame. This spell does AoE damage and grants Essence Burst. It can only be used 4 times.

Fire Breath has two charges.

Consume Flame uses Fire Breath to fuel explosions. This chips away at remaining duration.

Each use of Empowered spells will enable Mass Disintegrate.

Mass Disintegrate marks the target for Bombardments. This enables a damage proc for you and allies.

Imminent Destruction gives you a short buff that decreases Essence costs and increases damage.

Strafing Run increases damage and allows for a second use.

Onyx Legacy reduces the cooldown.

Stretch Time takes any damage taken during the skill and stretches it out, adding some safety.

Your Z-axis is preserved during this spell, so long as you don't fly uphill. Use height to your advantage if you plan to fly over rocky or dangerous terrain.

been playing DPS evoker a lot during m0's from my usual healer and this guide helped a lot. obviously some people want a more simplified guide, but this is the kind of guide i want, so i'm happy to have it. hope they can do a quick little guide for those who prefer condensed info and less complex stuff, but it gave everything i wanted and more. ty

Can anybody explain please why it is suggested to use Tip the Scales before Eternity Surge on single target opener? Maybe I'm missing something obvious but why charge it to full if there's only one target?

Edit, think I've figured it. Tip the Scales and Eternity is faster than channeling to even rank 1, so just saves time during the burst opener :)

What's the secret behind unravel? It feels like a waste of a GCD, mainly because it's so extremely niche that there's no way I have an actionbar slot for it that I can train muscle memory for.

With the new 4-set bonus Emerald Trance, should Disintegrate be prioritized over Eternity Surge? Both in-game and in sims, Disintegrate deals more damage per cast than Eternity Surge does. During Emerald Trance after Dragonrage, you have so many Essence Bursts you end up wasting them by having to cast Eternity Surge.

There is mixed signaling on what the priority is for Deep Breath as Scalecommander. Under “How to Play Devastation Evoker,” the guide cites:

As Scalecommander use Deep Breath on cooldown, even in Dragonrage.

However, further down in the guide under “Devastation Evoker Major Cooldown Usage,” it says:

Deep Breath is another notable cooldown. As Scalecommander, use this on cooldown outside of Dragonrage.

The other areas of the guide seem to recommend Deep Breath prior to casting Dragonrage, but I would like some further clarification on whether or not it is fine to use Deep Breath during Dragonrage.

None of the guides online seem to know how to play Flameshaper. Engulf damage is increased by the number of DOTs you have on the target.

You should have the Living Flame dot talent (Ruby Embers, which stacks x3 but unclear if each stack counts separately for Engulf), Flame Breath, and the Disintegrate dot talent (Enkindle) active on the target prior to using Engulf. I also use the extended Shattering Star time with Focusing Iris, but that's personal preference.

My opener is Living Flame, Dragonrage, Flame Breath, Shattering Star, Essence Burst, Disintegrate, up to two instant proc Living Flames, then Engulf x2.

I'm consistently one of the top DPS in my guild raids; I come to these guides to help improve even more but I'm met with nonsense like what's written here; at least explain the rotation you're using. The top 50 Evokers on WarcraftLogs are Scalecommander which sucks to play, so there's basically no reliable guidance for Flameshaper.

I've been playing FS since season 2. Before that, I didn't realize that the guide here is ultra-focused on SC. I think there should be two versions for each hero talent. Or at least more filter options.

Is the rotation section for Flameshaper right? It says its about building big Engulf and then ignore Disintegrate in the rotation to buff it? Shattering Star is not essence ability so it doesnt enable the third DOT for engulf. Why then this guide says to not use Disintegrate before engulf?

Fire Breath is higher priority than Eternity Surge. This forces Jackpot! buffs (Season 2 Tier Bonus) onto Fire Breath.

Jackpot buff is the #1 tip? This isn't maintained very well.

Use both Hover charges to dash forward twice, then use Deep Breath until it expires. Deep Breath again, then Hover forward twice using the refunds from Slipstream. Time Spiral for one last forward Hover, then finish by reactivating Glide. In total, this is around 200 yards of movement with minimal loss of height." Now that's just awesome.
